Indiana Jones 5 has finally arrived in cinemas, ending a really, really long wait for fans for the return of Indy.

We'll also get to find out what the titular Dial of Destiny is, and producer Frank Marshall has been teasing that it's something to do with time travel, which is certainly something we haven't seen before in the series.

Harrison Ford has also been reflecting on the fact it's his final Indy movie – and he seems proud of it.

"I felt a sense of peace, a sense of contentment, that this particular job that [James Mangold] and I and all the other people involved had done together, was concluded in a way that really felt satisfying to me," he told Digital Spy of his final day filming.

And it definitely is the end of Indiana Jones as Ford has been pretty open in saying that this is definitely it. "I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey," he said of his decision to return.

It will have been 15 years since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull when Indiana Jones 5 finally lands in cinemas. The trailers seem to promise that it'll be worth the wait though, showcasing an impressive cast and fan-favourite returns.

As we wait though for its release next week, here's everything you need to know about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Indiana Jones 5 release date: When is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny released?

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny finally arrived in UK cinemas on June 28 and will land in US cinemas on June 30.

It comes to cinemas after numerous release date delays, with the movie finally completing filming in February 2022.

When it was announced, it was supposed to be in cinemas in July 2019. That date was then shifted back to July 10, 2020, and then Disney pushed the release back again by another year to July 9, 2021, and then to July 29, 2022.

The movie had one further delay to come as it was moved another year again to June 30, 2023, as Disney moved back a whole host of films.

Filming finally got underway in early June at Pinewood and other locations in the UK but was not without snags. On June 23, 2021, Disney confirmed that Ford had sustained a shoulder injury while rehearsing for a fight scene.

As of September 8, 2021, Ford was back filming, and filming wrapped in late February 2022.

Ahead of release, the movie didn't receive the best of reviews out of its Cannes premiere, but it has received the seal of approval from Steven Spielberg and, really, that's the only person that matters.

Indiana Jones 5 runtime: How long is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny?

While Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy suggested it'll be around "2 hours 22 minutes", it has been confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny runs for a confirmed 154 minutes and 17 seconds, or just over two and a half hours.

That makes the new movie the longest Indiana Jones movie of the series by almost 30 minutes.

Indiana Jones 5 credit scene: Does Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny have a post-credit scene?

You can trim a few minutes off that runtime as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny does not have a post-credit scene – or any credit scene of any kind.

So you can leave as soon as it cuts to black, but you would be missing out on hearing more of John Williams's classic score.

Indiana Jones 5 trailer: Watch the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailers here!

The first trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny debuted at D23 Expo in September 2022, but that version kept the full title off the trailer to keep it a surprise for everybody.

We had to wait until December 1, 2022 for the trailer to make its way online after another airing at the CCXP in Brazil. If you missed it above, you can check it out below:

The second trailer arrived on April 7, 2023 revealing that the titular MacGuffin can be used to alter history and it's something that Indy has been after all of his life.

Unfortunately, he's now got competition from the Nazis (those guys again) and even his own goddaughter.

Indiana Jones 5 cast: Who's in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny?

Of course, the one man synonymous with Indiana Jones – Harrison Ford, duh – will be back in the hat one more time. Ford has even said that no-one else can play Indiana Jones apart from him, remarking: "When I'm gone, he's gone. It's easy. Get it in [your head]."

He also confirmed his retirement from the character in April 2023 if you held any hope that he might return for the planned TV show.

Writer/director James Mangold has even been shutting down a supposed plot leak that would have seen Indy 'replaced' by another character at the end of the movie.

Ford won't be the only returning star, because the trailer revealed the return of John Rhys-Davies as Sallah for the first time since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is playing Indy's goddaughter Helena who, according to the star, is a "mystery and a wonder", with her performance inspired by Barbara Stanwyck's role in 1941 comedy The Lady Eve.

Taking on villain duties in the fifth movie is Mads Mikkelsen as Voller, who was loosely inspired by real-life Nazi-turned-NASA-engineer Wernher von Braun, with The Predator star Boyd Holbrook on hand as Voller's "lapdog" Klaber.

"He's a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past," teased Mikkelsen of his villain.

"There is something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He would love to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it as well."

Our first look at Klaber in action confirmed that the movie will have a major action set piece set at the Apollo 11 ticker tape parade in New York, which was thrown to celebrate the astronauts.

The new movie also stars Marvel star Thomas Kretschmann and Black Panther's Shaunette Renée Wilson. Kretschmann stars as Colonel Weber and appears in the movie's 1944-set prologue and Wilson is playing government agent Mason.

It has also been confirmed that Toby Jones will appear in the movie as Helena's father Basil Shaw, alongside Antonio Banderas who is playing an old friend of Indy's called Renaldo.

Behind the scenes, legendary composer John Williams has been confirmed to return to score the movie, continuing the journey he began 40 years ago with Raiders of the Lost Ark. He's even already debuted one of the tracks from the new movie, the theme for Helena.

Marion Ravenwood, Indy's love interest in Raiders and Crystal Skull, might not be back. Although involved in the film in its early stages, Karen Allen wasn't contacted when Indiana Jones 5 was officially announced in 2016.

Does that mean she's definitely not in it? Not necessarily, as a lot has changed since 2016, and she told Digital Spy in June 2021 that she's up for exploring more of Marion's story. She also teased a potential comeback in December 2022.

Another Crystal Skull star, Jim Broadbent, said in 2017 that he'd be "willing" to reprise the role of Charles Stanforth, Indy's boss at Marshall College.

We'll have to wait and see if that happens, but we do know that Ke Huy Quan won't be back as Short Round, despite his recent Oscar win. Mangold has said he just couldn't find a place for Short Round in the story.

Indiana Jones 5 plot: What will Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny be about?

We don't have a detailed synopsis for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny beyond "returns as the legendary hero archaeologist", but we can make some educated guesses thanks to the trailers.

Indy and Helena will obviously be on some adventure to get their hands on a powerful MacGuffin before Voller and his cronies do. The titular "Dial of Destiny" looks to have time-travel powers as long rumoured.

The new movie has been inspired by real-life history which did see former members of the Third Reich work as part of the US government in the 1960s.

Voller's inspiration Wernher von Braun was a pioneer of space technology in the US after World War II. Unsurprisingly, Indy won't take kindly to the Nazis being back and having prominent position in the US government.

But Indy won't just take on Nazis in the main plot as it's been confirmed that Ford was de-aged for the opening sequence, taking place in 1944 around the time of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Whatever else happens in the movie, don't expect it to end with a recasting. Producer Kathleen Kennedy was adamant that would never happen.

"We would never make Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. Having just finished the fifth movie, I can tell you, there wasn't a day I wasn't on set where I wasn't like, 'Yes – this is Indiana Jones'," she told Vanity Fair.

And you can also expect the unexpected as Mikkelsen has been teasing a surprise finale to the new movie.

"In the previous films, we've had, you know, a grail that gave you eternal life. We've had an ark that opens up with infinite power. So I was hoping this film was going exactly where it was going. And so it did," he told Digital Spy.

Intriguing. At least we don't have too long to find out what he means.
