A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead in north Manchester.
Police are in attendance on Queens Road, Collyhurst, this morning (April 8) after a 51-year-old woman was found dead inside a property.
Officers were initially called out at 4.07am on Monday.
Greater Manchester Police has since launched a murder investigation following the woman's death.
Following initial enquiries at the scene, a 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
He remains in police custody for questioning this morning (Tuesday).
A scene remains in place whilst investigators conduct their enquiries.
Detective Inspector Emma Hulston, of GMP's major incident team, said: "The thoughts of the entire investigation team remain with the victim’s family at this time.
"We are committed to getting answers for them and establishing what occurred.
“We understand this investigation will raise concerns in the local community, but I would like to reassure the public that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.
“Officers will be conducting their enquiries at the address so you will see more officers out in the local area.
"We have a number of additional resources dedicated to this investigation.”

Officers are speaking to neighbours this afternoon.
Detectives are currently going door-to-door speaking to residents. One person living nearby says they were asked by police yesterday what they were doing between 8pm on Sunday evening and 4am on Monday morning. Whilst another said they were asked if they had any CCTV

A bunch of flowers and a teddy bear have been left at the scene, where police remain this afternoon.

"How can this happen?"
Baba Oreniwa, 41, lives close to the scene and says he woke up on Monday 'to find police all around'.
He added:
"They came to speak to me yesterday and I gave some statement. I told them I didnt hear anything and didn’t know what happened.
"They asked for a description of the people living there which I gave them. They told me it was a murder case.
"I was very surprised. Normally it is so calm here and no issues like that.
"So how can this happen? It’s so strange to me for it to happen here with these people and these neighbours. I am very shocked."

"If she's been killed, it's even worse"
Neighbours have told our reporter Chris about their shock at what happened.
One said:
"The police called yesterday and spoke to my brother.
"They just said someone had died and had we heard anything, and he told them we wouldn’t have done.
“It’s terrible. I can’t believe it. It’s so sad.
"If she’s died that’s very sad, but if she’s been killed, it’s even worse. I really can’t believe it.”

"All a bit odd and unsettling"
The neighbour also told the M.E.N. that the incident was 'unsettling'.
He added:
"I was obviously a bit stunned. But it was so early and I’d been up for a few hours so I was thinking clearly.
"They didn’t tell me anymore than that. I still don’t know any more about what has happened.
"The police are still here with officers at the front and back.
"It’s just all a bit odd and unsettling."

'Quite a few police cars'
A man who lives nearby told the M.E.N. he was woken at around 4am yesterday by the emergency services arriving at the scene.
He said:
"I could hear the police talking outside as I had my window open.
"There was one ambulance and quite a few police cars.
"Some of them then shifted around the back.
"I got interviewed by police about 6am and they just said a girl was deceased."
