Experience an action-packed takeover of Pittsburgh Brewing Company. On Sat., April 26, from 2-8 p.m., Beers of the Burgh teams up with Enjoy Wrestling to present TacoMania - Brawl at the Brew House. The annual taco-fest rounds up a dozen of the city’s “top-tier taco spots,” a selection of Pittsburgh Brewing Company beers, margaritas from Iron City Distilling, and live music, including a mariachi band. Enjoy Wrestling amps up the festivities with two hour-long matches at the brewing facility. Tickets to the 21-and-over event are $15-49 and can be purchased through ShowClix.

VegFair returns on Sat., April 26, from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. for vegetarian food, sweets, and shopping at Rockwell Park. Now in its second year,VegFair, VegFest's spring celebration, will gather more than 70 food, animal nonprofit, and shopping vendors for an indoor-outdoor festival dedicated to “endless good vibes" and Pittsburgh's "vibrant and diverse animal advocacy." Enjoy live music, kid-friendly activities, yoga demonstrations, speakers, and large outdoor dining areas. The first 250 attendees to visit the East End Food Co-op table will receive a free reusable tote bag. Admission is free.

Narcisi Winery

Spring means barbecue season, and Narcisi Winery celebrates with its annual Pig Roast event. On Tue., April 29, from 5:30-9 p.m., the winery hosts a rain-or-shine buffet featuring beers from 16 local breweries and a distillery, available to sample in a take-home Narcisi souvenir glass. Pig Roast pre-sale tickets cost $45 and are available through Narcisi’s website.

A Shark Tank-famousice cream shop has arrived in Allison Park. Crispy Cones celebrated the grand opening of its first Pittsburgh-area store and its first in Pennsylvania. According to a press release, Crispy Cones specializes in European-inspired pastry dough cones, which are hand-rolled and grilled rotisserie-style, covered in cinnamon and sugar, then topped with soft serve ice cream and other fixings. Entrepreneurs Jeremy and Kaitlyn Carlson appeared on Shark Tank in March 2023 and secured a deal with businesswoman Barbara Corcoran that allowed them to expand via franchising. Crispy Cones’ Allison Park location is now open seven days a week, including for online pick-up and delivery.

La Prima announced it will open a fifth cafe in Oakland. The new location is slated for 3400 Fifth Ave., next to Sciulli’s Pizza and the forthcoming Innovation Research Tower. La Prima founder Sam Patti told the Pittsburgh Business Times he previously owned a coffee shop, Cafe Zio, in Oakland in the 1990s, and believes the new venture represents a “full circle moment.” The new La Prima location will open sometime in May, following coffee shops in the Strip District, Downtown, and Carnegie Mellon campus at Wean Hall and the Gates and Hillman Centers.

Commonplace Coffee will open a new cafe space at Northland Public Library. A press release states that Commonplace Coffee Northland will be a “focal point” of the library’s New Northlandrenovation and construction project, adding a cafe and meeting space to a new lower-level building extension by "overwhelming" community demand. The new Commonplace will serve a full beverage menu with scratch-made baked goods and grab-and-go breakfast and lunch items. Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2025.

More food news for library patrons: Millvale Community Library and Abeille Voyante Tea Co. announced they are working to combine their spaces. Using fundsfrom an Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) grant, the Millvale Community Library, currently at 213 Grant Ave., will expand into the connecting building at 211 Grant Ave., occupied by Abeille Voyante Tea Co. A library press release states that the expansion will allow for better-developed adult and youth spaces and more quiet areas, in addition to partnering with the community-focused tea shop, which owner Danielle Spinola said will move to 207 Grant Ave. The Millvale Community Library requests input about the new design through a Library Expansion Working Group. Community members can get involved by filling out an online questionnaire.
